25 things about me!

I've seen a few other bloggers participating in Everyday Mama's "25 things" blog hop and I’ve jumped on the bandwagon. My life is pretty Lila-centric these days, so it took me a while to come up 25 things about myself!

1. I've gotten my hair highlighted since I was a young teenager. Except for a brief 2 months where I went brunette, I've always been blonde

2. I was a waitress for about 6 weeks when I was 16. I was pretty bad and gave most of my tables to the other girls so they could get the tips (they had families and I was lazy!)

3. I have a weird obsession with my Starbucks water cup. I am rarely without it and probably don't wash it nearly enough! It has a Christmas straw but I don't care

4. My husband takes care of the bills, taxes and our budget and I'd be totally lost if I ever had to do it. I have my own checking account and credit card, but that's all I keep track of (and barely do that).

5. My Starbucks orders: Skinny Vanilla Latte (iced in summer/hot in winter), Iced Decaf Americano (decaf/summer), Iced Venti unsweetened Green Tea (tea/summer)

6. My favorite store is probably TJ Maxx but I love Target too! Luckily both are minutes from my house

7. One of the things I miss the most about my pre-baby life is staying up way too late watching hours of Dexter or whatever show Neil and I were hooked on and sleeping in until 10 on the weekends

8. I've done everything a few years sooner than I thought I would... master's degree at 22, married at 22, bought first house at 23, first baby at 27... hoping this means we'll retire and move to the beach earlier too?

9. We eat at Chick fil A once a week.

10. I thought I'd be way more germaphobic with my daughter. If she drops a toy or pacifier on the ground I only make a menial effort to clean it off. Maybe this is why she still has a lingering cough after 3 weeks

11. I'm not a pet person. I especially dislike cats. I used to want a dog, but I'm so glad I didn't get one. I'm also allergic to all animals except for rabbits.

12. If my life is ever interesting enough to make a movie out of, I'd want either Claire Danes or Katie Holmes to play me and Footloose-era Kevin Bacon to play Neil

13. If I could wear flip flips 365 days a year I would

14. I love to do things sitting down that many people do standing at a mirror - putting on makeup, fixing my hair, etc.. If I could straighten my hair laying down I'd do it

15. I used to HATE leopard and zebra print and thought they were the tackiest things ever. Now I love them!

16. I love fashion and shopping, but since I'm 15 lbs heaver than normal right now I can't wear much in my closet and don't really want to buy anything new either! This will probably be my least fashionable fall ever

17. Speaking of weight, in the last 5 years I've been all over the place. I was 130 lbs at my wedding in 2006 and almost 200 in February at 41 weeks pregnant! My goal is 150 but would love to be around 145. I also used to be shy about people knowing my weight, but now I really could care less! FYI I'm 5'8".

18. Being a mom has really put a lot of things in perspective. It's made me realize that I used to care too much about a lot of stupid stuff!

19. My favorite holiday is Valentine's Day and it sucked last year. It was my due date and Lila didn't come until the 23rd. Maybe V-Day 2012 will be better

20. My most embarrassing guilty pleasure is watching Degrassi on Teen Nick. I LOVE it. I'm at least 10 years too old for this show but still watch it and have for a long time. New episodes are on every night right now and I watch them in the mornings when I'm getting ready

21. I love to read! My favorite books are memoirs of people with messed up childhoods, weird disorders and hilarious lives. I loved Glass Castle, Running with Scissors, Girl Named Zippy and anything by David Sedaris.

22. One of my favorite things to do is just sit outside in the sun and read or people watch

23. I'm so lucky to have a fabulous husband. We are so compatible and just have so much fun! It's hard adjusting to being new parents, and we've gotten on each other's nerves more than normal lately, but he is an incredible husband and father and makes me laugh every single day.

24. My favorite foods are broccoli, chicken, chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter. Not in that order.

25. My favorite season used to be summer, but after so many consecutive 90+ days and over 100 degree heat index, I'm so ready for fall!

A Hello to some new visitors!

I'm participating in the 2nd Annual Commenting Challenge over at Jenna's Journey. I LOVE reading blogs but rarely comment. And I so love getting comments, so this is a good challenge for me to make sure I'm leaving comments for others! I also love finding new blogs to follow, especially mommy and baby blogs!

I wanted to tell my new visitors a little about myself since many of you are stopping over for the first time.

The basics: I'm Lindsay, I'll be 28 years old in September and I have a wonderful husband Neil and a 4.5 month old daughter Lila. We live in Ohio and I work at my alma mater Miami University as a librarian.

That's us when Lila was about 2 weeks old. I would've had a shower and gotten highlights had I known I was going to be in these photos, but looking back I'm so glad I had the photographer take them. Yeah, I look like a frazzled new mom, so what!? I cherish these early family pictures and I already can't remember when she was that small!

Random things about me:

- Neil and I just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary on July 1st. That means 5 years ago today we were sitting blissfully on a beach in St Thomas enjoying our wonderful 2 week long honeymoon!

Neil and I at our outdoor wedding ceremony on July 1, 2006.

- I love fashion and shopping. I actually started this blog as a fashion blog but I was pretty sure it would evolve into a pregnancy and baby blog. And it did!

Yep I took great photos of myself, haha.

- I am a musical theatre nut. I love Broadway musicals and I've performed in a lot of community theatre productions and was always on stage in high school. My favorite role I've played is Laurey in Oklahoma because I grew up watching that musical and loved singing all of the songs on stage.

Neil and I in a high school musical production of "Me and My Girl"... Did I mention Neil and I have dated since high school?! We are 17 and 16 in this photo!

- Today is my daughter's first day in daycare and I'm so nervous! I hope she is doing okay and I honestly can't wait to go and pick her up! I'm writing this during my pumping break at work and it's only 10am... still a long day to go. I'm hoping she has a great day and I'm the only one that's a wreck. ** I just got a text from the daycare! She's doing great. Eating well and napping and very happy! I LOVE that they text me during the day! **

One of my favorite pics of my daughter Lila!

- I loved being pregnant (and wrote weekly updates on this blog!) and want another child someday but I'm still a little scared to go into labor and give birth again. I had an emergency c-section after Lila's heart rate kept dipping lower and lower at one point it was 50! Turns out she was completely wrapped up in the cord. She's completely okay but I'm totally traumatized! You can read her birth story (in two parts) here and here.

I think I was around 40 weeks pregnant here. I had Lila at 41 weeks and 2 days!

- I am obsessed with baby names and naming trends. It's a weird little hobby. I post on baby name forums (yes there are others like me) and have thought about what I would name my kids since I was maybe 13? And by "thought about" I mean I've made lists and lists of first and middle name combinations and sibling names that go together and thought of nicknames, etc... Lila was actually pretty easy to name because Neil only really liked the name Lila out of my top choices. And yes, I've already started "naming" our future second child.

- I LOVE my smart phone. Neil and I both got HTC Evos right before Lila was born and it has been the best thing ever. I felt so connected after she was born and I was able to upload pics, post to facebook and the blog. It was great for those loooong feeding sessions in the beginning and really kept me sane in those first few weeks!

That's a bit about me. I look forward to reading everyone's blogs. I'd love to read your comments and have you follow along with me!

35 Questions

I saw this on another blog (Kelinda Kelinda) and thought it looked fun!

It's basically 35 questions that reveal a little more about me:

1. Where is your cell phone?
In my cute black and yellow Vera Bradley wristlet (the color palette inspiration for my blog redesign, apparently!) which was a birthday gift from my mom.

2. Your hair?
Is blonde, but a bit darker than normal thanks to some lowlights I got at the salon today. It's a little longer than chin length and is in the process of being grown out!

3. Your Mother?
Is amazing. She is recently retired and is entirely too busy for a retired person! She is an accomplished knitter, frequent volunteer and contributor to the community, a wonderful gift giver (see #1), and a great confidante, role model and friend. Love her!

4. Your Father?
Is hilarious, smart, silly and the man of many many hobbies. He is into everything - antiques, coins, Civil War, cars, genealogy, radios, gardening and this list goes on! He always has an interesting fact to tell me and is one of the most calming presences in my life.

5. Your favorite food?
One word. Chocolate.

6. Your dream from last night?
Can't remember any from last night, but many of my dreams have to do with me being pregnant or having a baby! Oh and my husband said he had a dream about finding a $1 off coupon on Coke products and was excited that we'd be able to get free Coke Zero. I find this hilarious that he is getting so into couponing with me that he is dreaming about deals!

7. Your favorite drink?
Hot drink? Chai tea lattes. Cold drink? Sweet tea. Alcoholic drink? Blue Moon.

8. Your dream/goal?
To continue to learn and grow and be flexible with whatever life throws my way. My ultimate goal is to do everything with love and be happy - as cheesy as that sounds.

9. What room are you in?
My office at work. I'm on my dinner break - but not hungry yet! I work from 2-10 tonight.

10. What are your hobbies?
Reading, shopping, decorating, neglecting my half-done craft projects.

11. What is your fear?
Hmm. I'm not really afraid of much, but probably the big ones - death of loved ones and being alone.

12. Where do you want to be in 6 years?
In 6 years I'll be 32. That still sounds young to me, so I'm really happy about that! I hope to have at least one child, maybe two. I hope my husband and I have flexible jobs we love that give us enough time and money to spend with each other and our little family.

13. Where were you last night?
At the gym, then to Five Guys for burgers with my hubby. Yes, I see the irony.

14. Something you are not?
I am not indecisive. I'm proud of my decision making skills and I stick to my guns pretty well.

15. Muffins?
Bran or blueberry.

16. Wish List items?
Other than clothes, of which there are too many to mention here, I'd love to have a big tea package from Teavana with all the stuff to make yummy tea!

17. Where did you grow up?
In a small town in Ohio, that's all I have to say about that.

18. Last thing you did?
Um. Walked over to the campus printing center with a coworker.

19. What are you wearing?
Jeans, gray long sleeved tee, black tunic sweater, black tweed flats and a cerulean blue scarf.

20. Your TV?

Is a new HD flat screen. We are so content with our free HD channels that come in on our rabbit ears that we just cancelled our cable package yesterday!

21. Your pets?
Don't have any, aren't getting any! I'm allergic to most animals, and don't have time or the desire to own a pet right now. I love other peoples pets, though. And I have fond memories of my dog growing up, Chevy - an awesome Cocker spaniel who died when I (and he) was 14.

22. Your friends?
Are fun!

23. Your life?
Is pretty good. I really can't complain. I have the most amazing husband ever, a good job that I enjoy most of the time, and I'm pretty happy!

24. Your mood?
Content. I'm feeling a boost from a new haircut and the chai latte I just drank.

25. Missing Someone?
I really do miss Neil when we are apart - I'm always thinking of funny things to tell him.

26. Vehicle?
Is yellow, small and cute.

27. Something you're not wearing?
Gloves. Because I'm inside. Duh.

28. Your favorite store?
TJ Maxx.

29. Your favorite color?
It's always been light blue but I've been loving purple lately.

30. Last time you laughed?
I've probably laughed a lot today already. I'm pretty giggly in general.

31. Last time you cried?
This week's Biggest Loser episode. The time before that? Last week's Biggest Loser episode.

32. Your best friend?
Is my husband. We are pretty much the same person - it's scary and awesome.

33. One place you go to over and over?
Chick-Fil-A. We go there every week, I swear. It's ridiculous.

34. One person who emails you regularly?
Most of the email I get is work related. I really don't email too much otherwise.

35. Favorite place to eat?
We really don't go out to eat much (other than Chick-Fil-A, see above), but I love sushi, so I'd probably say any good sushi restaurant!

Whew.

Let's get it started

Hey there. Well, I'm starting a blog. I've actually done this a few times before! I created a short-lived blog about my daily fashion choices which quickly fizzled. I realized I didn't really want to take a photo of myself everyday, and I wasn't quite sure anyone else wanted to see one! I also started a blog a few years ago to help support my goals for exercise and weight loss - and I eventually lost interest in that blog too.

So, I thought I'd be more interested and more interesting in writing in a sort of all-inclusive, no holds barred type of blog. Without any restraints I will hopefully be free to blog about whatever I feel like on any given day. My interests are kind of all over the place - so don't be surprised if I touch on any of these topics:

  1. I love fashion, and I follow about 30 different daily fashion blogs. These are incredibly creative, fashionable women who somehow make the time to look fabulous and take great pictures of themselves everyday! I'm inspired by them, and plan to share some of my thoughts about fashion and maybe even a few outfits on this blog.
  2. I am a librarian and I love reading. I tend to blow through quite a few books per month, and I'd love to share my thoughts on recent books I've read, all time favorites, and share reading suggestions. My favorite genre is definitely memoirs/biographies but I love good fiction and young adult books too!
  3. My husband and I have owned a home for about 3 years - so I have a lot to say about the joys and pitfalls of being a homeowner. Our house is only about 7 years old, so no big renovation projects yet, but I do a lot of decorating! We are hoping to finish our basement in the next year - a huge project!
  4. We are hoping to become a family of 3 in the next couple of years. I've been obsessed with baby names forever, but have just recently developed an interest in all things baby! I've been researching just about everything there is about fertility, pregnancy and motherhood.
  5. One of my goals before trying to get pregnant is getting back into shape. I go through phases of being really gung-ho about healthy eating and exercise OR not really caring at all. Right now I'm trying to get myself in gear and get serious about being healthy. I'm hoping to drop 15 lbs before next summer.
So, I have a lot of stuff in my head and can't wait to start getting it all out there.
