Big Sis #2 Rosalie

Lila will be almost 5 years old and Rosie will be almost 2 when this baby girl arrives. We are full expecting to be pretty overwhelmed for the near future but we are very very happy now that the shock has worn off.

I am about 20 weeks right now and feeling baby girl move around a bit. Not much movement this time because I have an anterior placenta that makes movement more difficult to feel. Other than some morning sickness in the beginning, I am feeling pretty good!

Lila is doing great. She is 4 years and 5 months, about 33 lbs and is wearing 4T clothing and size 9 shoes. She loves drawing/coloring, singing, dancing, telling stories, pretend/dress up, being bossy, swimming and shopping! She is taking gymnastics and loves it. She is very sensitive and a bit prissy and princess-y, but we love her this way! She is still very dramatic, talkative, emotional, musical and extremely active! She says she wants to be an artist, singer, teacher and mommy when she grows up. The other day she said, and I quote: "I am the prettiest, the fanciest, and I have the best ideas." Let's just say she is a confident little thing! We are so proud of our girl!

Rosie is really coming into her own. She is a funny little girl. She is now almost 19 months old. She is about 26 lbs and wears 24 months or 2T and a size 7 shoe. She loves balls, cars, dolls, music and dancing, coloring and crafts, being in the pool (but not the bath), eating, and being with mom and dad. She loves Lila a lot even though she sometimes gets picked on. She also loves pillows and brushing her teeth! She's starting to do dress up with Lila and loves to get into my lipgloss.

Rosie is saying a lot of words and short phrases but her favorites are: mama, Lila, dada, I want, I do, I know, up, no, yeah, doggie, etc. She knows all of the main animal sounds and body parts. She is very expressive and does not like to mimic or repeat what you say but will do it on her own time. She loves books and being read to. She gives hugs and kisses, blows kisses, waves and says bye. She loves her pacifier. We are done with bottles and trying to get going on the potty but she is not very interested. We love our Rosie girl!!

Stay tuned! I might just update again when the baby is born!! Or before.. you never know!

What to say about this little girl? She never stops. She is constantly talking, singing, humming, moving! She is exhausting. She tests my patience every day. But she is incredible!! She is SO smart and hilarious and sweet. She is also sassy, bossy and literally causes us headaches every day.

I'm not sure how to organize my thoughts, so here is my brain dump about Lila:

She is about 31 lbs and 37 inches tall. She is wearing 3T and 4T and size 9 shoes. She prefers dresses but will usually agree to wear what I want her to.

Lila was retested for egg allergy (skin and blood test) and is still severely allergic.

She goes to bed between 8:30 and 9pm and wakes up between 7 and 7:45am. She's done with pull-ups (yay!)

She just started preschool this month. She is going 2 days a week from 9-noon. She is doing really well. She still seems upset when I drop her off, but she has started talking about friends and teachers and says that she has fun. The other day she said, "You know that girl Kate, at preschool, with the yellow hair? She's my friend." I think it is great for her to learn how to handle herself with a group and to meet new kids.

She has a crazy big vocabulary and it is so fun to listen to her come up with stories. She is so creative and funny.

Lila is so klutzy. She falls constantly. She doesn't support her own weight half the time, so she just tumbles over. She is also still quite the daredevil. She will climb up on the back of the couch or the posts on her bed. She will ask, "Is this dangerous?" And when I say yes, she usually says, "Good" and jumps!

She is learning to recognize words, is starting to spell words and knows her letter sounds. She loves PBS online games and Leap Pad apps that show her spelling and letters. She wants to read so badly!

She loves music, dancing, singing and musicals! She is my child, for sure. She loves songs from Newsies, Annie, Dreamgirls, Smash, Shrek the Musical, and many more. I'm starting to introduce her to Wicked, Aida, etc. We are going to our first children's theatre show, Beauty and the Beast Jr. this month! I'm so excited to introduce her to live theatre.

Her favorite things to play with are: Dress up clothes (!!!!), Little People, Littlest Pet Shop, legos, coloring books/easel, any type of craft, playdoh, dolls, magnet dress-up dolls and sticker books. She loves practicing her writing whether it's tracing letters or making lists, maps, recipes, etc. She likes to play outside of course and likes to climb trees, swing, play with balls, riding her bike etc. We got an above ground pool this summer and she has loved swimming! She also just loves to turn on music and dance!

Favorite shows and movies: Sophia the First, Curious George, Handy Manny, Super Why, any Disney princess movie, play-doh shows on Youtube (people demo-ing and reviewing toys and playdoh sets), anything musical!

Lila is a great little girl. She is very challenging because of how strong willed, bossy and grumpy she can be sometimes. But on a good day (and they mostly are good), she is smart as a whip, hilarious and witty, goofy and silly, loving and sweet and great to be around.

She is a sweet big sister. She helps Rosie, brings her toys, soothes her when she cries, etc. She also takes her toys, nudges her so she falls, and wrestles with her. They are really starting to interact and it is so much fun to watch.
Rosie is now 9 months old! She is getting so big and is really starting to show her personality and is getting very mobile.

Some stats and updates:

Weight - 21 lb 9 oz at her 9 month appt (90th percentile)
Height - 29 inches (90th percentile)
Head circumference - 50th percentile, not sure of size

Sizes - 12 month onesies and pjs, 18 month pants! She hasn't worn shoes yet, but I think size 4.

Eating - She eats EVERYTHING. She is the best eater! She loves baby food of every type. She often eats two containers of baby food for dinner. She also eats a ton of real foods: pancakes, veggies, toast, noodles, diced fruit, chicken, ham, ground beef, etc! She has 4-6 oz bottles 3 times a day and then a 6-8 oz bottle before bed. We've tried a cup but she just slings it around.

Sleeping - She typically sleeps from 8p-7a. She will occasionally wake up and need a paci or a small bottle, probably due to growth spurts or teething. She naps twice a day, usually a shorter nap in the morning and a 2-3 hr afternoon nap.

Motion - Just beginning to crawl on hands and knees. She can get around just by moving in circles, rolling and crawling backwards. She can easily get from crawling position to sitting. She can pull up to her knees, but not completely standing that I've seen. She is getting into everything - pulling on cords, getting into the recycling and of course grabbing Lila's toys!

More new things -

She has her two bottom teeth

She LOVES to dance! Any music or beat she will wiggle and groove!

She can say Mama and Dada. She is babbling and vocalizing a lot. Possibly has said, "hi".

She's been waving for a while but now waves as we are leaving

Trying so hard to clap but hasn't gotten it yet

Personality traits -

Rosie is just the sweetest child. She is mellow and quiet and sometimes shy/bashful.

She is ALL smiles. She hardly ever cries.

She getting a little ornery, like messing with Lila or her toys seemingly on purpose.

Rosie LOVES Lila. She is so entertained by her but also is rightfully a bit overwhelmed by her!

She is such a great complement to Lila, quieter but will still let her opinion known.

She has changed so much this month! At her 6 month checkup she was 18 lbs 5 oz. and almost 28 inches. She is 95th percentile for height and 75th for weight.

She has tried lots of new foods this month, including pureed baby foods like pears, apples, peaches, etc and baby oatmeal. She has also tried bites of toast, corn, potatoes, avocado, plums, peaches and other veggies and fruits. She can pick up puffs and cheerios now too. She LOVES to eat!

We are done breastfeeding now and she is now on formula. It was a totally simple process to wean her, I'm kind of surprised. I am feeling very free now, but it is a tad bittersweet. My last baby is growing up and is done with the boob! I am so happy to be finished pumping! Rosie has made the transition just fine. She is so laid back!

I am also happy to say that she has been sleeping pretty well the last few weeks. Most nights she does sleep through the night 11-12 hours, from 8pm-7am usually. She still occasionally wakes up though around 3-4am. She sometimes naps well, 1 hour in the morning and a longer nap in the afternoon, but other times not so much. We are on the go with her a lot so sometimes she doesn't have the luxury of quiet peaceful nap times.

Rosie loves sitting on her own and playing with toys, especially cups and bowls. She loves to laugh at Lila. She loves to wave and blow raspberries and bat her long eyelashes. She is the sweetest baby! She is trying pretty hard to crawl or at least reach things. She will lay on her belly and spin all the way around in a circle. She still doesn't roll much at all. She loves to jabber and says mama and other sounds all day long!

All in all, Miss Rose is a happy lovely baby! She makes everyone smile with her funny faces and her sweet personality. We love our Rosie girl!

She turned 6 months old on June 26th. We don't even realize it sometimes how much she is developing and growing! She is getting to be such a big girl.

We go to the pediatrician on Friday, so we don't know her height and weight and all of the stats. But, to me she seems like she is about 18 lbs! She has the chubbiest thighs and I love it!

Rosie can sit all on her own now! She can also roll but chooses not to do it very often. She loves to cuddle, give kisses, blow raspberries and bounce in her jumperoo. She doesn't have any teeth yet but is drooling a lot. She is getting more hair and it is very blond. Her eyes are very light blue and she still has those long lashes!

She generally sleeps from 8pm-7am, but wakes 1 or 2 times. We are trying to get that under control! She usually takes two naps, an hour one in the morning and a long 2-3 hour nap in the afternoon.

We are still nursing, but she is getting more formula now and I am slowing down on pumping (once per day). We will be slowly transitioning to formula only over the next few months. She has tried lots of foods: pureed sweet potatoes, carrots, pears, apples and fresh peaches, bananas and melon. She LOVES eating a ripe peach!

We love our sweet Rosie. She is so calm and mellow and hardly ever cries. She is so content to just lay around and look at a toy or talk to herself. She is so funny and so cute. We love her so much!

She is for sure getting the shaft. I have to write her 5 month post because she is 1 week from being 6 months old! She turned 5 months on May 26. To add extra craziness, since May 1st I've been back to work and we've been showing our current house, fixing up our new house and finally moving in a week! Rose has been right along for the ride and she is such a trooper and such an easy baby!

Rosie is a big girl. We think she is close to 18 lbs, but we haven't really weighed her precisely. She is so chunky and has the cutest rolls on her thighs! She is so cuddly. She wears mostly 6-9 months Carter's stuff, but she wears 12 month sleepers. She's in size 3 diapers but I probably just should've bought size 4s.

We are still going strong on breastfeeding and pumping and she gets a mix of breast milk and formula at Miss Amanda's. Pumping sucks but I'm still doing it and planning on sticking with it for a couple more months. She loves to nurse and is super efficient - 5 minutes and she's done.

We tried pureed foods this month at about 5.5 months I think. She has had sweet potatoes once and pears once. She did better with the pears and seems more into it each time we try. Lila loves feeding Rosie.

Rosie loves the jumperoo and Bumbo because they allow her to be upright and she is not sitting on her own yet. She is also not rolling but will be soon I'm sure!

She has bright white blond hair, bright big blue eyes, super long lashes that curl up and is SO happy all the time. She rarely cries!

Rosie wakes up a lot at night still. Sometimes 2-3 times, sometimes only once. She naps well on the go or at home, and usually takes at least one long nap and once short one each day.

She is really a wonderful baby. She LOVES watching Lila. She loves playing with her toes. She loves talking to herself and playing with toys. She is so much more aware of the world now.

We all love our Rosie girl so much. She is such a great addition to our little family and I'm so glad she has been such an easy, mellow baby so far! I also really cannot believe she is already almost 6 months!

Rosie was 4 months old on April 26! She is a pretty chill little girl. She hardly ever cries and just kind of sits there and takes it all in. She is pretty enamored with big sis Lila but still flinches when Lila walks by!

But she has slept through the night a few times in the last couple weeks. She's getting there. Rosie is so mellow and sweet!

She is still not rolling over really but will roll from side to side. She loves playing with her feet now.

So far she has liked dipping her toes in the baby pool and swinging in the baby swing.

Rosie is super chubby and I love it! She is just a wonderful baby!

Just a bit about Big Sis. Lila is doing pretty well too. We've had some growing pains with Lila adjusting to having Rosie, but she is doing better. She does say she loves her now, wants to hold her, play with her, etc. The only problem is Lila also wants to try to get in Rosie's bed, wear her clothes and bathing suits and get up on the changing table.

The "Terrible Threes" are real and rough. Lila challenges us and throws fits and pushes boundaries daily. But when we witness her being nice to a friend, sincerely thanking someone for a gift, bringing Rosie a toy or being sweet and loving to either myself or Neil, we think we are doing an okay job and she is truly a great little girl under all the 3 year old chaos.

Lila is strong-willed, opinionated, daring, articulate, imaginative, hilarious and extremely cute. We love her so much and we hope we are doing the right things to help her blossom into a wonderful young woman. We have been given quite an honor to be in charge of raising two little girls, and I hope we are off to a good start!
We are selling our house and buying another one, so things are crazy around here.

She doesn't look happy here, but she is ALL smiles these days!

Weight - 13 lb 13 oz at her 3 month checkup (she was 3.5 months), 75th percentile
Height - 24.5 in, also 75th percentile
Size - Diaper size 2, clothes 3-6 months

Eating: Eats every 3-3.5 hours during the day. Typically once overnight between 2-4am, then somewhere around 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 7pm and then she is down for the night.

Sleeping: She is a pretty good sleeper with the exception of some growth spurts or developmental leaps here lately which had her up a lot during the night. She goes to bed early between 7 and 8, wakes up to eat in the early morning. She goes down for naps very well on her own, usually without crying at all. About 1.5 hrs after eating, if she looks tired or is yawning, I just lay her down and she falls asleep. Sometimes I swaddle for naps and I always swaddle overnight. She's had some crying spells in the evenings some, but nothing compared to Lila. I remember a lot more cluster feeding and crying with her in the evenings.

Milestones/Things to remember:

Rosalie is just a super sweet baby. She is very mellow and almost seems shy! She will look at you and smile and look away. It's super cute.

She is laughing so much now!

She is grabbing at objects and loves her play mat and chairs with hanging toys.

Not rolling yet, but lifts her head and looks around.

She still loves the bath! Her skin is pretty dry so I don't bathe her often, just a couple times a week for a full bath.

Lila is doing well! She is the sweetest most loving girl one day and a complete and total hellion the next, just like any good 3 year old is. She has tantrums and whines and talks back, but she is also loving, kind, funny and a pretty good big sister. She loves princesses, the color pink, playing dress up, singing, dancing, coloring and playing with stickers and stuffed "aminals". She loves Rosie now and really likes that she is beginning to respond to her and laugh at her.

But many of their interactions go like this:

We are all adjusting well to life as a family of 4. It's definitely not easy, but I know I am so lucky to have these two beautiful girls! I can't wait to see them continue to grow and be able to play together.

Lila is pretty good with her most of the time and calls her sweetie and tries to make her laugh. But she has tried to cover her face with a pillow and cut her leg with a play knife and did pour water on her face during bathtime. She also has said "I don't love Rosie!" and asks me to put her down. When Rosie cries, Lila will say she's too loud and hurts her ears or will say, "Mommy, feed her!" So we are still working on sisterly love.

And of course a comparison with Lila at one month old, just for fun. Yes that's the exact same outfit, down to the socks. Lila on the left, Rosie on the right.
Rosie's stats at one month:

Weight - 10 lb 6 oz
Length - 22.5 in
Head circumference - 14.5

Diapers: Size 1

Clothes: She is in 0-3 months. Some things are still way too big and some things seem too short. I think she has long legs.

Eating: Rosie eats every 2-3 hours during the day and usually goes 4-5 hours at night. Those long stretches usually start around 11-midnight, she's up at 4 or 5am to eat and then back to sleep until 8 or so. She is nursing so well and she is a very quick eater. We started bottles around 2 weeks old and she does really well with them. She has had breastmilk and formula in a bottle and does fine!

Sleep: She is a very sleepy baby and is still rarely awake! She will sleep in the swing, the boppy on the couch and the bassinet, but loves to be in our arms most of all. She puts herself to sleep sometimes so we don't do a lot of rocking and shushing and swaying like we did with Lila. We swaddle with her arms out unless her hands seem cold. She is a loud sleeper and grunts a lot.

Nicknames: We pretty much call her Rosie, sweetie, goofy/goof and "the baby".

Mommy update / recovery: My recovery has been really good with this birth and compared to my c-section it's been night and day. The first week I felt a lot of discomfort and was taking pain meds, etc. Week 2 I was pretty good except I had some issues with clogged ducts and was running a mild fever. I feel almost back to normal now. Once I go to my 6 week checkup I plan to start working out and eating better so I can start looking more like myself! I gained about 50-55 lbs with this pregnancy and I have about 30 lbs to lose to get back to pre-pregnancy weight!

Milestones / Things to remember:

Rosie's umbilical cord stump fell off super early, like 4 days old!

She likes the bath! It seems to calm her down

She started smiling at 4 weeks. Melts my heart!

We are starting to do tummy time, but she is so mellow she just lays there
Still has all her dark hair

First outing other than the doctor's office was Target at 3 weeks

First outing with both kids was Buy Buy Baby! Neil went with me, so I haven't done a solo trip yet

Read Part 1 and Part 2 first!

So we were doing this thing unmedicated! There was no time for an epidural. I wanted a natural birth and couldn't believe I was actually going to get it!

Suddenly, a ton of people rushed into the room. This was really surreal for me, because with the complications with Lila's birth, medical people kept flooding into the room intermittently because of her heartrate issues and to prep me for the OR. This time, it was the doctor, more nurses and someone rolling in the baby bassinet! That's when it really hit me. This baby is coming soon and I am really doing it!

Dr. Narendran, one of my favorites of the 9 OBs in the practice, was on call that night. I was SO relieved to see her because she has a very calming presence. I was freaking out a bit realizing that I was actually going to be doing this drug free and that it was happening now. I was fully in transition and the contractions were strong and right on top of each other. I was saying things like, "I don't want to do this", "I'm scared", "I can't", and what seemed to be my pathetic, pleading labor mantra, "Help me."

The doc got right in my face and helped me breathe through the worst of the contractions that came right before I was completely dilated. She breathed right along with me and I locked eyes with her and stroked her hair! Neil said it got weird. I didn't care. She helped me get through it! After a few minutes, I was ready to push. They put my legs in stirrups, which I objected to, but they said that the baby will be coming quickly and it would be fine.

I pushed once and they said that I was doing it wrong and I needed to push from my bottom. I changed what I was doing and pushed again. I'm pretty sure I was yelling, "Get her out of me!" I pushed one more time and I felt her come right out and they put her on my chest!!! I was amazed! I didn't feel a "ring of fire" or anything. Just intense pressure and then body parts sliding out! So crazy. Neil cut the cord and I snuggled my Rosie for the first time. I cried and was just in disbelief on what just happened. I couldn't believe I got my VBAC! And somehow I did it all natural and SO fast! From water breaking to her birth was about 4.5 hours. I was only at the hospital for an hour and a half before she was born!

I had a 2nd degree tear. I delivered the placenta and the doctor stitched me up (2 stitches). I held Rosalie for a long time before they weighed her or did anything. I was able to breastfeed her almost immediately and she latched for 10 minutes! This was night and day different from my c-section with Lila. I didn't SEE her for 10 minutes after she was born and didn't get to hold her or try to nurse her for who knows how long.

I am one week post partum right now and my recovery has been so different and so much better than the c-section. I haven't had much actual pain, just discomfort. I have taken some pain meds here and there and for the past week I've had a pretty elaborate bathroom routine of peri-bottle, Tucks, Dermoplast spray and ice packs! Sitting and laying down were uncomfortable in the hospital and home. But I could walk and function pretty normally! The worst day of my recovery was day 5 where my stitches became a little painful. But I am feeling very close to normal right now! My milk came in on day 4 and nursing is going very well now.

I am so proud of myself for being so determined to have the birth I wanted. I think luck and maybe genetics may have played a small part in my successful easy birth, but I know that all of the preparation and work that I did leading up to the delivery helped me to have a wonderful VBAC.Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201800091654794052noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8920123736889794993.post-8283853317822013612014-01-09T11:13:00.000-05:002014-01-10T15:23:23.101-05:00Rosie's Birth Story: Part 2This is Part 2 of the birth story, Read Part 1 here.

After figuring that my water probably did break, I called Neil at work to tell him. He said he'd wrap up things at work and be home soon. I started feeling light contractions around 3. I got in the shower to wash my hair so I could dry and straighten it. I'm not sure when Neil got home, but by the time he was home I was having waves around 10 mins apart. We were putting last minute things in a bag and I was just pacing around having contractions. Neil and my mom were trying to time my contractions and they started to get more painful.

With each wave, I leaned over to breathe through them and Neil gave counter-pressure on my back. Neil started talking about maybe leaving for the hospital soon. I resisted saying it was too early (I wanted to get to the hospital and already be 6-7 centimeters to avoid interventions). Mom and Neil eventually convinced me to go in after showing me on the contraction app that my last 3 contractions were about 4 minutes apart.

I put on my flip flops (I was hot and did not want to wear real shoes) and headed out to the car. I had 3 or 4 pretty painful contractions in the car. Side note - one of the Hypnobabies techniques is to say the word "peace" and direct pain relief to where you need it. You are supposed to relax your body and quietly say the word "peace". I was definitely screaming PEACE! in the car. Not quite what Hypnobabies taught me!

We got to the hospital around 5:15pm. In triage, they checked me and I was 3 to 4 cm and completely effaced. I was disappointed I wasn't more dilated but my contractions were so painful at that point I couldn't really think about it. They admitted me and after 20 minutes or so I went to the delivery room. My contractions were getting bad. They asked if I wanted an epidural and I said, yeah, why not. This hurts pretty bad. I told the nurse I'd rather wait until I was at least 5 cm dilated.

When I got to the delivery room all I wanted to do was lay on my side and listen to my "Deepening" track. They brought in an exercise ball but the baby was so low I couldn't sit. I laid there through quite a few contractions and listened to my track. Neil would help me breathe through the waves and would give counter pressure on my back. Eventually the anesthesiologist came in and was asking me all these questions while I was having harder and harder contractions. As she was wrapping up the questions my was feeling so much pressure and actually feeling "pushy". I remember saying something like, "Should I push?!" and one of the nurses said, "Why would you do that?" I was only supposed to be 4 centimeters!

As my epidural was being prepped, I had one last unbelievably strong contraction and Neil stepped in and pushed on my back and helped me through it. With that contraction I felt like I was basically pushing (with the grunting to accompany it) and Neil asked if they would check me before getting the epidural. I am SO glad he did! I was an 8! It was too late for an epidural. I had gone from a 3-4 to an 8 in less than 45 minutes. I really think this is due to the 10 mins or so I laid on my side listening to my Hypnobabies track. I think my body relaxed enough to dilate me that much. They actually gave me the option to go ahead and get the epi, but after they assured me that this was going very fast, I said I would go for it drug free!
After a lot of thought, research and discussions with my doctors, I decided that I wanted to try for a vaginal birth and that I had a good chance of success.

To prepare for my birth this time I did a lot of things differently. I listened to Hypnobabies self-hypnosis tracks every night from 30 weeks on, I visited a Webster-certified chiropractor for the last few weeks and followed many optimal fetal positioning techniques to avoid a posterior baby. I drank cup after cup of red raspberry leaf tea, avoided negative birth stories/people and just tried to have a general positive outlook for the birth.

Hypnobabies prepares you for a natural drug-free delivery, but when I mentioned not getting an epidural to one of my doctors, they weren't very supportive. They basically mandated continuous monitoring, an IV and when I was ready, an epidural. I was initially upset by this, but since my main goal was healthy baby/mommy first and then a VBAC, I focused on that outcome, and didn't dwell on having to have a natural birth. I did plan on waiting until I was pretty far into active labor before I got to the hospital so I didn't have time to get an epidural or at least be far enough that it wouldn't slow my labor down.

Okay, fast forward to 39 weeks. I started losing my mucous plug on Dec. 18, a week before my due date. I knew that this could mean something or nothing. I also began a pattern of having contractions every other night that kept waking me up but never amounted to anything. Some nights they would be 10 mins apart for 3 or 4 hours. Never painful enough to get out of bed or wake up Neil, but enough to not be able to ignore completely. I hoped that those contractions were beginning to dilate me, but by my appt. on Dec 23, I was still 1cm and not effaced at all. I was very discouraged at that appointment as I set up an ultrasound for Dec. 30 and began to talk about c-section dates. I started to think I was going to go very overdue again and be walking into another c-section.

Once Christmas Eve came, I was happy not to be having a baby so I could enjoy the holiday! My mom and I were busy with food and gift preparations and getting everything ready for Christmas Eve appetizers and Christmas Day meals. We had a wonderful Christmas morning opening gifts with Lila, my parents and brother and his fiancee. That night, after we got Lila to bed we watched a movie with my parents (We Are the Millers) and I bounced and did circles on my birth ball for 2 hours and laughed! I think that started everything!

That night I had contractions overnight again, from 2-6am about every 10 mins. But again when I woke up, they were gone. I was starting to get disappointed that I was now officially overdue. Mom and I decided to get Lila out of the house and we did some after-Christmas shopping and returns that morning at Target, TJ Maxx and Ulta. I felt totally normal just very pregnant.

When we got home, I started noticing lots of pink-tinged mucous every time I went to the restroom. I had some back pain but nothing bad. I ate some leftovers for lunch and decided to take a bath. I remember lamenting to my mom how I was upset to be past my due date, since I was kind of hoping to go early this time. She said, "Well you are only 12 hours overdue!"

At 1pm, I took a HOT bath and visualized how my birth would go. I talked to Rosie and told her I was ready to meet her. I completely visualized how my labor would progress and the feeling of her being placed on my chest and hearing her cry for the first time.

Around 2pm, I was getting ready to take Lila up for her nap. I decided to stretch out my back by doing some cat/cow stretches. As I was stretching, I felt and heard a pop! I got up and I said to my mom, "I think my water just broke!" I went to the restroom and I had a lot of mucous plug, streaked with blood, and some water that trickled. I put on a pad and came back out and put Lila down for her nap. I thought that if this was the real thing, I'd be happy to have spent that time with her...
I had a drug-free VBAC with a whirlwind 4.5 hr labor from water breaking to delivery! She was 20 in long and 8 lb 2 oz. She has a lot of light brown hair and looks just like Lila! Mommy and baby are doing great!

I hope to share her birth story soon and more pictures as soon as I get around to it. For now, we are enjoying our girl at home!
I went to the doctor on Monday and I am dilated to 1 cm! That doesn't sound like a lot to most people, but I was thrilled. That tells me that my body is progressing and is doing something earlier than last time! I wasn't 1cm until past 41 weeks with Lila. I know this still means I could go overdue, but I'll take it!

My blood pressure was pretty good (130 over 78) and I have very little swelling going on. I am having some Braxton Hicks and some cramps and back pain but nothing major. I go back on Dec 23 but I may reschedule for Dec 26 or 27, just to give myself a chance to go into labor without even going in to see the docs again before my due date. I mean really, what's the point?

Rosalie is still very active in there which is reassuring. I really don't have much to say other than we are just finishing up last minute Christmas shopping and activities and trying to get together with people before the baby comes. I don't have a true feeling either way, but I do want to meet her so I'd like her to come soon, but I'm fine with her waiting until after Christmas.

I'm excited to have my family come visit us for a week next week but they may be sick of us if they end up having to come right back if the baby isn't here yet and then decides to show! It's all so unpredictable!

I'll add a photo later on if I take one today or tomorrow!Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201800091654794052noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8920123736889794993.post-27828059041908169172013-12-17T14:38:00.000-05:002013-12-17T14:38:33.785-05:00Lila Caroline at almost 3!There is just so much to say about Miss Lila it's been hard to actually type up an update about her. She is just an awesome little human being! She can be very stubborn and annoying as well, but we sure love this girl to death! She is SO funny and loving and smart! I'm so lucky to be her mom.

As far as size, which I always do on her update posts, Lila is getting to be a big girl. She actually is starting to feel heavy when we lift her! Last time I weighed her she was 28 lbs! That is the highest she has ever been and I'm so happy! She is wearing 3T in almost everything and a size 7 or 8 shoe. Her waist is small so some 3Ts are still too big, but in jeans with adjustable waists she definitely needs a 3T for the length. I think she is around 36 or 36.5 inches tall.

Lila loves Halloween!! She is still obsessed. Christmas is pretty cool, but Halloween is her favorite! She is always talking about ghosts and witches, wants to listen to Halloween songs and stories and plays "trick or treat" often. I wish she would just get over it already but she really likes it!

She is also in love with Disney princesses! She loves Belle. Obsessed. She also loves Ariel, "New-lawn" (Mulan), and "Poca-homas" (Pocahontas). She loves to sing and act out the songs. Watching movies is not a quiet calming activity for this girl. She is up and active and dances, sings and acts out everything! It's so fun to watch. She is such a performer. Extremely dramatic and expressive and it's hilarious!

She loved her dance class. We tried it at the YMCA this fall and even though we missed a few classes she was really into it. It was a tap/ballet combo at the most beginner level and I think we will keep her in it. She seemed to really like it and LOVES performing and being in front of people. I was so proud of her in her little recital!

Lila loves TALKING. The girl never stops. She is so funny and smart and imaginative. She cracks us up all the time and we have headaches every night from her constant high-pitched musings. Wouldn't have it any other way though.

She loves "school" and her backpack and reading and learning! EVERY day when I pick her up from Amanda's she says, "I had fun at school today!" and she tells me all about what she did. Her vocabulary and memory are super impressive. She seems to have more of a knack for the verbal side but still does pretty well with numbers too. She wants to read so bad and loves for us to read to her and she often is found in her bed "reading" to herself.

She loves crafts and I really love doing them with her. We spend a lot of time making ornaments, coloring, doing water colors and putting googly eyes on things (mostly ghosts!)

She loves playing with stuffed animals and dolls. Her bed is chock full of blankies and "pets". Her favorites are probably pink bear, sock monkey, and whatever newest toy she has gotten. A Belle Barbie and her Build A Bear are on the top of the list right now!

Speaking of Build A Bear, we went on Sunday and Lila made a pink bear for Rosie to take to her in the hospital (Rosie will have a gift for Lila as well). And Lila also got to build a bear for herself. She really enjoyed the process!
Lila is excited about Christmas and her new baby sister. I am so ready for this next stage in our lives with two awesome little kiddos!

Exciting! Of course we still don't know if Rosie will make her appearance before or after Christmas, but we are prepared for either scenario. I feel pretty good, honestly. I am sleeping well and only waking up once a night. Some days I feel pretty crappy but other days I feel great! I have been trying to stay active when I feel good and even walked a mile on the treadmill and rode the elliptical for about 10 minutes the other day. I've not had much swelling at all, and even though I weigh more now than what I did when Lila was born, I think I look and feel better.

My symptoms are pretty typical: I'm sore when getting up and walking, have back pain, heartburn, numb/tingling hands, some pain in pelvis/hips, tingling in ribs, hot flashes!! and a few other random things like soreness in my c-section incision site. No real "labor signs" to note other than a few short rounds of contractions that ended up petering out within an hour or two.

I had my 38 week check up Monday. I declined the cervix check this time. I doubt I've progressed any, and it doesn't really matter anyway. I am strongly considering a cervical check and membrane sweep at my next appointment on Dec 16. I haven't fully decided. I'd have to be at least 1 cm dilated to get the sweep, so it might be a moot point anyway.

I haven't done anything to try to bring on labor at this point (since nothing is really proven to work). I have listened to my "Come Out Baby" track from Hypnobabies a few times, eaten some dates and pineapple and started taking an evening primrose oil (EPO) tablet every day in addition to my 2-4 daily cups of red raspberry leaf tea. I've been trying to stretch, do yoga, bounce on my ball and have good posture for optimal baby position. I've also been visiting the chiropractor weekly.

Baby Rosie is still active in there, but her movements are more restricted. I feel much more big movements and fewer little fingers wiggling. I hope this means she is flipped into an anterior position. I am so ready to see her little face, but I honestly am fine waiting until after Christmas for her to come!

We are taking Lila to see Christmas lights tonight, she has a Christmas party on Friday and seeing Santa on Saturday. I am glad to have these last few weeks to spend focusing on her instead of being in the hospital or at home with a new baby. Our lives will be changing very very soon though!

I will be sure to update after my appointment next week or if there are any other changes to report!
The earliest I'd even imagine her showing up would be at 39 weeks, but it feels nice to know we are getting so much closer to meeting this little girl. At the absolute latest (42 weeks gestation), we have about 35 days max to go. I don't believe we will last that long!

We are ready. The bassinet is set up, her room is nearly done (pics soon!), carseat ready, clothes washed and diaper bag packed. My body is tired and big and ready to not be pregnant anymore. Neil is ready to not hear about my pregnancy aches and pains and about all of my birth plans and preparations. Lila is ready to meet her sister! She even said to my belly the other day, "Come on Rosie! You're 'sposed to come out!"

We are very busy with holiday stuff! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and now we are gearing up for Christmas. Lila is very excited and it's so much fun to celebrate with her. We have the tree up and I'm hoping to be done with ordering gifts very soon. Lila has already seen Santa a couple times, once at the Museum Center (from a distance) and once at the outlet mall as he was walking around. She was very confused as to how he got there from the museum and then after we left him, she said, "I didn't ask him for my Belle doll." We hope to have a sit down with Santa here in the next few weeks.

I had my 37 week checkup yesterday. Everything is fine. My BP was a bit elevated because I was mad about spending 1 HOUR in the waiting room, which is rare, and especially annoying because I had a chiro appointment to get to. I'm still gaining weight and I'm pretty much on pace to meet or exceed the weight gain I had with Lila. I am trying not to fret about it.

The doc did my group B strep test, and while she was down there, checked me for dilation. Guess what?!! Nothing! I'm not surprised AT ALL. I was only dilated to a 1 at 41 weeks last time, so I know my body only starts to dilate when labor is underway or very imminent. She did say baby is head down, but didn't mention effacement or anything. The doc also said to BE PATIENT.

So even though there is a possibility that Rosie will arrive before Christmas, I'm not betting on it. I think I should start focusing on the potential reality of going overdue again. We may be indeed looking at a January baby and I need to be okay with that! It's just tough when we're all so excited about meeting this baby girl. I also cannot be induced at all so going into labor naturally is my only real way to avoid a scheduled c-section.

I'm feeling okay most of the time. I'm tired. Every other night I have a decent night's sleep. I'm getting Braxton Hicks, my hips hurt, baby is on my bladder/cervix, I get lightening/shooting pains "down there", mild swelling, backache/cramps and I think thats about it! I'm just 9 months pregnant, that's all. It's a hard business, bringing a little baby into the world.

I'm feeling really positive at the moment. I am confident that I will have an uncomplicated VBAC delivery and I just cannot wait to get my hands on Miss Rosie June and have our family be complete!

Here is me at 37 weeks. Get used to those gray corduroy pants because those are 1 of 3 pairs of non-yoga pants that are still comfortable.

I go back to the doctor on Dec. 9 for my 38 week checkup, and I will likely decline a cervical check. They really mean nothing as far as when labor is coming. I will continue to go weekly and then every few days if I go over. I am considering a membrane sweep at my 39 week appointment. This is the most augmentation/induction most docs will consider. So, we are playing the waiting game. I am beginning to feel like a pregnant Christmas is in my future and in reality will probably be easier than having a newborn. If it works out that way, it'd be really special to have one last Christmas with my Lila before her sister arrives!

Lindsayhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14201800091654794052noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8920123736889794993.post-2533935276922547002013-11-19T11:43:00.001-05:002013-11-19T11:43:23.089-05:00Baby #2: 35 weeks and 35 days to go!We are another week closer! I am 35 weeks tomorrow, but I had a bit of time to post today so I am. I'm definitely feeling 9 months pregnant now. I'm large and waddling and just a bit grumpy. I don't think I felt quite like this until about 39 or 40 weeks last time! I hope that means I will go into labor earlier, but who knows.

I also have some new symptoms that make me think that the baby will come before 41 weeks this time: lots of lower back pain and period-type cramps. I'm hoping this means that my body is doing something to get ready earlier this time. When I was in labor last time I was barely 2 cm when I got to the hospital! So I hope that I begin to soften and progress a bit sooner this time. But I've talked to a few friends and they all mentioned crampy feelings in the last month, so I think it's normal.

I'm doing a lot to prepare for the birth this time around, with the hopes that I will be able to go into labor in December and have an easy vaginal birth! I've talked about my Hypnobabies practice, which I am keeping up with pretty well and loving! I'm drinking a ton of red raspberry leaf tea (which helps tone the uterus and make contractions more effective). I'm also seeing a chiropractor on Thursday that specializes in pregnant moms to help with the baby's alignment. I'm pretty sure Rosie is posterior (sunny side up) because I feel little hands near my pelvic bone and some other signs. I would like her to get moving anterior before my birthing time. Anterior babies are more likely to come on time the labors are easier and quicker with less pushing, you are also more likely to avoid "back labor" with a correctly positioned baby.

I'm trying to do a lot of postures and exercises to encourage the anterior position too, sitting on my birth ball, doing pelvic rocks (cat/cow yoga moves), not putting my feet up or laying back at all, and sitting Indian style or at least leaning forward. Apparently the worst position is reclining with your feet up. That's exactly what I did for much of the 2 weeks prior to Lila's birth! Oops.

We are gearing up for the holidays and looking forward to some family time before the baby waiting game begins. I'm really excited to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and get started on all of the fun Christmas traditions! Lila understands so much more this year and she is so excited. She can't wait to put up the tree and I am so thrilled to be able to share all my favorite holiday things with her.

My next appointment isn't actually until Dec 2, just shy of 37 weeks. Because of Thanksgiving, I wasn't able to get in earlier, which is fine with me. I will then begin weekly appointments until baby Rosie's arrival. I really hope that I only have 3-4 appointments left! I really really hope she comes before Christmas or at least before New Years Eve. I know I can't really do much about it, but please send good vibes!

Here I am at 35 weeks!
I'm getting really excited, and I think it's becoming very real to us now that Thanksgiving and Christmas are getting closer. It snowed the other day and when Lila looked outside she said, "Where is the Christmas tree and where are the presents?" I made the mistake of asking her what she wanted for Christmas (because I really wanted to know if there was something specific) and now I think she is hyper-aware of the gift getting part of the holiday (oops).

I've actually gotten 2 Christmas gifts for Lila already (a Belle doll and a book) and I have a pretty good idea of what I'm getting the other people on my list. I want to get my shopping and decorating/wrapping done by early December. I may actually start bringing my Christmas decorations up from the basement soon so I will be physically able to do some decorating instead of delegating it all to my poor husband. :)

This past weekend, Lila spent the weekend with her grandparents so Neil and I had THREE nights/days to ourselves! We really didn't know where to start or what to do with ourselves, honestly. It was really nice to just have some time together and to be able to clean and work on stuff around the house. We also went out to eat a lot and had a date night to the musical downtown and to the casino!

We did get some baby-related things accomplished. I got not one, but two diaper bags. One larger one for daycare and longer outings and one smaller bag for quick trips. These are the two I decided on (after almost 2 hours in Buy Buy Baby! LOL):

JuJuBe Hip (snagged it for $20!) is the smaller, simpler bag of the two. Here is the pattern I got:

And my bigger bag is the JJ Cole Mode bag.

So far I'm pretty happy with them. I even started (gasp!) packing my diaper bag with things Rosie might need in the hospital! I'm kind of against packing anything early because last time of course I packed ALL of my hospital bags early (36 wks). I was like every super over-planner first time mom and then had a bag of wrinkled stuff 5 weeks later when she finally made her appearance.

So I'm making lists of what I might want to take to the hospital, but mark my words, no bags will be packed until at least 38 weeks, and I might just wait until I go into labor.

For my own entertainment, here is what I've packed in Rosie's hospital diaper bag. And yes, I know the hospital provides diapers and wipes and even has those little wrap shirts, but I'm weird and I like to use my own stuff. I do plan on using their diapers and taking as many of those snot suckers as they will give me though!

Here is newborn baby Lila modeling one of the newborn outfits I'm packing. Yes, Rosie will be wearing hand me downs from day 1, poor thing!

2 newborn outfits (both have pants with coordinating snap top that covers the hands)
0-3 month outfit (just in case she's a hoss)
Knit hat for outdoors
Cotton hat for indoors
Two bows (for hospital pics)
2 swaddle blankets
Socks
Scratch mittens
Pacifier (will I not want this yet? I threw it in there.)
2 burp cloths
Wipes (I didn't like the hospital ones)
Nursing cover

I hope that's all I will need for the baby bag at least! I might bring a baby nail file, a heavier blanket, and maybe some lotion or diaper cream? I also plan to take my Boppy or have someone bring it after she is born. Since we are so close to the hospital, I'm sure Neil will go get things or I can have my parents bring me stuff from home if needed.

And lastly the infant carseat which is all ready to go complete with one of those cold weather covers to keep baby nice and warm - essential for a December baby!

I need to buy a few more things before baby comes like some newborn diapers, Aveeno baby wash, some new nursing tanks and bras for me and it'd be nice to get some new comfy pjs and robe for the hospital and for lounging at home.

There is a bit more to do in Rosalie's room, but mostly just hanging pictures and some finishing touches. I am working on a canopy to go above her bed too. We'd love to re-do the girls' shared bathroom, but I think that project will likely have to wait.

Other than that, I'm feeling okay. I'm getting some Braxton Hicks now, still lots of movement from baby, more pain/pressure in belly and pelvis, and apparently I'm snoring now. Sorry Neil! I think he is about to move himself to the guest bedroom.

I had an appt. this morning and other than gaining too much weight this time (I blame Halloween and unending appetite) everything is fine. Her heartrate was higher - 150s and my blood pressure and everything was still good!

I actually don't go back to the doctor until Dec. 2 because of Thanksgiving. I will be almost 37 weeks at that point and will be tested for Group B strep (was negative last time, really hoping this time too) and since they are down there, they might do a cervical check. I might do this one and then decline the weekly checks until 39 or 40 wks or until curiosity gets the best of me.

I really can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving and I'm getting so much closer to meeting this sweet baby girl! So so excited!

Oh and here is your giant pregnant lady photo for the day:
Baby #2: 33 WeeksWe are somehow, inexplicably at 33 weeks! The countdown is truly on and we are getting so much closer to meeting our little girl! I'm getting really excited, and even though we are technically ready (we have a place for her to sleep, a carseat, and more clothes than she'll ever need) I'm not sure if any of us are truly ready for the life change that is upon us! I really can't believe that we'll be a family of 4 soon and I will have TWO children!

Look at the difference 20 weeks has made! My hair is really growing out and my body is definitely growing as well! I can't wait to have my face look thin again. My face and nose always get a bit puffy at this point in pregnancy. Oh well, 7 more weeks, right?!
I am feeling okay. I am noticing a lot of pressure in the bladder/cervix region and sometimes when I'm walking to my car (sometimes as much as a 15 min walk) I have to stop and rest because the pain is pretty bad. It's hard to stay seated or standing for longer than about 1/2 hour. Sleeping is hit or miss.

Rosie's movement is out of control. She is wild, and from what I can recall, even more active than Lila. I know movement is good, but I worry about her getting tangled in the cord like Lila did which was the cause of the c-section. I know I need to block out negative thoughts, but this is truly a concern of mine! I also apparently make long umbilical cords which leads to hyperactive babies in the womb and could lead to more cord problems cause they can get tied up. I am seriously considering asking for an ultrasound to check on the cord before delivery!

This weekend Lila is getting ready to go and spend some time with all of her grandparents while Neil and I have a child-free weekend to get ready for the baby, work on projects and have some time to ourselves before baby arrives. I'm so thankful my parents were willing to do this!! I hope it goes well!

Here is my update for 33 weeks, I'll have more to share next week when I go back to the doctor for my 34 week checkup.
